Haymarket Square, Boston

Perhaps one of the oldest farmer's markets in the United States, Haymarket Square in Downtown Boston was buzzing with activity when I visited last week. I was first struck by how cheap the prices were. A pint of blue berries for $1? Are you kidding me?

After the market, we headed to the North End for espresso and pastries. A great time.

birds of spring

I'll be the first to admit that I am not a nature photographer. I simply enjoying capturing my world around my as I see it or want to remember it. Within the last two weeks I have seen nature explode after the winter sleep.

My daughter and I discovered this little guy in our garden. He was sitting perfectly still in the hopes we didn't see him.

I've camped in the little campground of Todd Lake, VA for four of the last five years. I absolutely love the location. I've always been greeted by a small nest of sparrows that build their nest right on the welcome kiosk of the campground. This year I was prepared with my macro 105 lens.

Some times nature is so close and within reach that even a hack can capture nature photos.

Shenandoah Valley rained out

water
Sometimes the best laid plans are thwarted by nature. In this case it was rain. I went to the Shenandoah Valley to cycle and make photographs but alas my camping curse struck again. Just too much rain to whip out the cameras for any real photographs. I guess I'll need to go back.

I had hoped to come home with a decent size body of work that illustrated the simple life of the Shenandoah Valley. I'm starting to plan my fall trip now!

Ms. Raleighwood is gone

Went by on one of my many coffee runs to Helio's Cafe where I usually pass Ms. Raleighwood. This particular day the second hand shop where she had worked all day had a "Going out of business" sign on the front and the moving truck was present. I rather enjoyed seeing this one-armed eclectic dummy enticing shoppers off of West Street in Raleigh.

Ms. Raleighwood's last day

Good luck to the business owners. Sorry you went out of business.

my view of the Horne Creek Living Historical Farm

in the shadow of Pilot Mountain
We stumbled across the Horne Creek Living Historical Farm while camping out at Pilot Mountain in the Piedmont of North Carolina. This historical treasure should not be passed up if you are exploring the area. I could have spent hours here making photographs but my time was limited. I enjoyed the farm very much. The staff was very informative and the location immediately had my mind wondering what it was like to live the life of a farmer at the turn of the 20th century.

A gallery featuring the music of Arabesque and my view of the old farm.
Horne Creek Farm Gallery

All photos shot with an Olympus E-P1 with 17mm prime. Processed in Lightroom 2.7 and the show was put together with Soundslides Plus. I processed some of the photos to look like some of the old photos present at the museum while others are pretty much out of camera.

wash basin, Hauser family farm house

An image from a recent visit to the Horne Creek Farm near Pilot Mountain, NC. This beautiful historic site is part of the NC Historic Sites system. I'll be putting together a complete gallery featuring the entire estate very soon, so please check back.

Can you imagine doing your nightly cooking and cleaning in that basin?
